If firecrackers are banned in the whole of India, we’d be on the verge of forgetting Diwali. Thanks to the combo of A.R Murugadoss and Vijay for reminding us of Diwali everytime they unite. This is the duo’s 3rd Diwali outing. And Sarkar’s teaser has took social media by storm.
What's the usual, unusual of the teaser in the story point of view? Let’s break it down.
First thing that could be noticed is the revelation of the inciting incident, which was absent in the teasers of Thupakki and Katthi. Of course with all due respect the previous 2 films of this duo has a brilliant screenplay. But, in Sarkar revealing of the inciting incident could mean that this isn't any give away but there is more unexpectedness and intelligibility in its screenplay.
Coming to the teaser’s introduction. Vijay is seen as a corporate giant. This disappoints a bit as he is seen as an evolved character with nothing to add or reduce. A David vs Goliath battle is what is a time tested crisis building technique in Indian cinema. But, with Vijay being a ‘corporate criminal’ as he himself says, it is highly doubtful how enjoyable will be the battle of equals.
The master of ambiguity A.R Murugadoss is once again at it. Once the challenge the hero faces is disclosed you can see the hitherto suave Vijay is seen in plainclothes. Is Vijay a corporate criminal or the leader of the proletariat? This question comes in the league of whether Katthi engira kathiresan is a hero or a villain. This could excite critics and general audience alike.
Lastly, Vijay is seen floating the fighters on air effortlessly. This is a big let down, as this gives an impression that Murugadoss is banking on Vijay the ‘Hero’. Dealing with a hot subject like election manipulation the message the movie gives will be closely watched. In such a subject, a Vijay like Jeevanandham of Katthi will fit the bill. A solution this movie gives for election manipulation should be holistic in the approach and not cinematic. With the stunts seen, I fear the core being diluted.
But, at last this is just a teaser and i just drew inferences which may be partly wrong or fully wrong. Rest assured A.R Murugadoss and Vijay will not give a No-brainer masala taking into their track record in account.
